MySpace Generation
The rise of MySpace is changing the face of the music business. The Borkowski poet in residence, who succumbed to the delights of MySpace recently, celebrates it with a poem.
I want to network and I want to make friends
I’m not here for dating but to see what life sends
I want to show the world what I’m about
I want to prove I exist, remove all doubt
I want you to know what I love and despise
I want to look you in your cyber eyes
I want respect not veneration
as a spoke in the wheel of the MySpace generation
I want MySpace to be YourSpace
to be OurSpace to be perfect
Give the MySpace generation
some respect cause they deserve it
I want to make friends in cyber space
I want poets, freaks, musicians to be my mates
I want to know in an instant what’s going on
I want the world to hear my latest song
I want to sidestep usual public relations
get straight to the heart of the cyber nations
I want my career to do eighty to the gallon
I want a number one just like Lily Allen
I want MySpace to be YourSpace
to be OurSpace to be perfect
Give the MySpace generation
some respect cause they deserve it
I want to stand out from other bands
I want to commune with my cyber fans
I want to be king of the mighty iPod
I want to be a download god
I want my career to do eighty to the gallon
I want a number one just like Lily Allen
I want MTV to be the enemy
but I still want front page of the NME
I want MySpace to be YourSpace
to be OurSpace to be perfect
Give the MySpace generation
some respect cause they deserve it
I want big fish and little fish to share the river
I want to hear music that will make me quiver
I want to find songs the shops can’t supply
I want the punk ethic, I want DIY
I want my career to do eighty to the gallon
I want a number one just like Lily Allen
but I want respect not veneration
as a spoke In the wheel of the MySpace generation
hope you download before I get old…
