I’m honoured once again to have been included in the PRWeek hashtag#powerbook2024 alongside illustrious industry humans I hold in high regard James Herring Sarah James James Gordon-MacIntosh Warren Johnson Graham Goodkind Julian Vogel Julian Henry Gary Farrow Alan Edwards Fenella Grey Farzana Baduel Paul Charles Fergus Lawlor Jo Carr plus my wonderful MD Lucie Speciale
One of the most interesting aspects of industry shindigs is the consistent level of curiosity (sometimes even discomfort) about Borkowski reluctance, and mine personally, to pursue industry recognition by ‘blowing our own trumpet’ via the usual means of prolifically entering awards, hard-selling our creds on social media, and other such sacrificial offerings at the PR altar increasingly seen as non-negotiable facets of running an agency.
It’s a system that works wonders for many of my esteemed peers and a path we do tread selectively, but often our work speaks for itself in important private channels, and so we take a different approach to projecting our culture and expertise publicly, one that also reflects what we aim to do for our clients.
Rather than a sales pitch we use our channels – here, in the media, on our Media Trends newsletter, through our White Papers and at our events at the Ivy Club- to analyse, in a distinctive and accessible voice, the intersection of our industry and practices with top news stories, memes, cultural trends and debate.
We’re still showcasing our knowledge, insight and personality, but instead of trying to drown a cacophony of capable people vaunting the success of their own work, we’re doing it in a way that allows us to tap into wider discussions and appear on the radar of a different audience.
That’s a microcosm of what we try to do for our clients; topicality, cultural relevance, and a point of difference, all delivered with substance on a firm foundation of strategy.
Now if you’ll excuse me, my proverbial lips are teetering far too close to my own trumpet for comfort…
